SAY GAY AT BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY

On October 13th, Binghamton University joined the SAY GAY family as the first university partner! Hosted by the university’s theater department, over a dozen students performed various plays from the SGP catalogue in a one night only event to students, faculty, and peers.
The reading was followed by a talkback with LGBTQ+ rights activist Shadi Amin. Amin helped to contextualize SGP’s mission and spoke about the importance that art and culture play in our society.

We applaud Binghamton and the theater students for their bravery to present this work. Below are a few quotes from students and faculty about their experience working on SAY GAY
“...Storytelling is a powerful tool for education and advocacy, and it is a wonderful added benefit that these short plays resonate a lot with the members of our community who got to be part of the project and also who were audience members, making everyone feel heard, seen, and connected.” - Jay, Student (they/them)
“Say Gay Plays' was an immersive experience for me. It was an event of stories of the LGBTQ+ community that told of the varieties of struggles across different ages, settings, and identities, and it felt much more personal knowing that the actors and team behind it were close to these narratives…” -Jamie, student (she/her)
“I so appreciated the variety of perspectives and experiences shared by the characters in the plays. I felt that they offered numerous truthful, provocative, and personal ways into the conversation and means for connection for audience members” - Elizabeth Mozer (she/her), Associate Professor of Theatre, Binghamton University (SUNY)
